Dating a Lawyer Part 2: Conclusion
I gathered from this friendly little get together, I had a
mentor all these years. I utilized his wisdom but not to the fullest. I
gathered only the basic amount of knowledge through working with the man and
now I am casually having cocktails after a long litigation day, normal. When I
arrived at the location for our cocktails, I find that there are many other people
there. Relief is not good enough of a feeling to express, joy comes close.
I was introduced to some
of the most legendary lawyers of our time that no one has ever heard of. These
things are not televised nor should they be. People who associate with other
humans such as are considered some of the most curative minds in the field and
possibly history. “They do not make them like they used to,” is not just a
phrase. Those words were made for people who will remain nameless. They changed
how we write law and, how we grow in law as human beings, outstanding. There are
moments in life to take back for sure, but I would not take any of these. Complimentary
drinks. Business cards and lunch dates. How the hell did I get here?
“Are you wondering how you got here?” Says the voice of a much-
needed friendly stranger, The Judge.
“Thank you, Sir. This has been an outstanding invite. I am extremely
honored.”
“Are you always a tight-ass?! Live a little kid. You have got a
long career ahead of you. If you play your cards right could be in any number
of these positions. I hand-picked you from a line-up and I am extremely happy
with my decision. You see kid, not all that you do is dependent. Sometimes you
have to have friends in high places you never knew you had.”
“Sir, I had no idea of any of this. I feel honored and
surprised and a bit taken aback by it all. Had I known…”
“You wouldn’t be the Danger Mouse I know you to be and I am
proud of the work you have done here. Keep it up, kid.”
And with a wink and a tip from his scotch, he walked back into
the fold. Possibly the best date I have had, ever.
